Prairie Crocus

Enjoying something simple...

A single prairie crocus blooming in the countryside near Cappon, Alberta.

Maybe not such a big deal for most but over the years much of their natural habitat has been disrupted by people so seeing even one is a treat.  Enjoy the little things.

  1. Every wild prairie crocus IS a big deal! I love them and have not seen one in the wild for decades.

    1. I agree...every surviving prairie crocus IS a big deal. I know of a few places where they are prospering once again.

  2. I think the pairie crocus is the provincial flower (?) and you'd think, because of that, it would be protected and nutured. Such a pretty flower!

    1. I don't think they are a provincial flower...at least to my knowledge. I've planted some out at Saint Margaret's in the Cypress Hills of Alberta and they are thriving. Hope they can spread out into the surrounding landscape.
