Baby geese out for a swim with their parents.
Shown here with a few friends.
The pond is across the street from a golf course where the geese like to feed and hang out. This year the powers that be finally put up a "Goose Crossing" sign. Yay! One for the geese!
Photographed in Medicine Hat, Alberta on May 10, 2023.
I hope cars stop for them while crossing!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I've been traveling that street for years and have as yet never seen a casualty. That's a good sign.
DeleteWe don't see as many geese on our part of the river and I don't know why, although I suspect the MNR might be destroying their eggs to keep the population down. When we first moved into this apartment there were dozens of geese in the park and now there's only two or three. At least it means walking in the park and along the river isn't a 'dance' trying to avoid slipping in the droppings.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, Canada Geese are protected and destroying their eggs seems like a cruel and inhumane act (and possibly unlawful). They're an important part of our cultural landscape even if they do poop all over the place.
DeleteI think they're protected when it comes to the ordinary person but I suspect the Ministry can get away with it.
DeleteThey're an enjoyable part of the landscape at any time of the year (but especially when they have goslings).
