Can I assume that this is a rattlesnake? I have heard that there were some in southern Alberta, but have never seen one.
Yes, it's a Prairie Rattlesnake and they are common in southeast Alberta where I live.
I have never seen one.
They're always interesting to encounter...at a distance of course.
Not so sure I would want to get too close to this guy! I'm not afraid of snakes per se, but rattlers give me pause for thought for sure.
They only react if you get too close. Otherwise they're happy to let you take photos.
