While gardening at Margaret and Bill's this past Saturday I noticed this trio of butterflies enjoying the nectar on some false spirea flowers. Flutterbys are always a source of joy and wonderment.
Have seen lots of butterflies this season...a trend I hope continues in the years to come.
Photographed in Medicine Hat, Alberta on July 8, 2023.
Aren't they just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra. More butterflies is certainly a good thing.
DeleteHeather's wee garden in Calgary was her project to have flutterflies
ReplyDeleteHope we can attract some to her garden at Saint Margaret's.
DeleteBeautiful! It's to be hoped that the monarchs also enjoy a resurgence now that, at least here, the designation of being a noxious weed has been lifted from the milkweed.
ReplyDeleteMust have been a real "rocket scientist" (yes, I'm being sarcastic) that declared milkweed a noxious weed. So many "educated" people are ever so stupid when it comes to basics.
DeleteOur garden was once on the local 'garden tour' and the snobby Gardeners (note the capital!) were quite put off by the fact that we were growing milkweed in one of the flower beds. Several went so far as to point out it was a noxious weed, to which we replied 'not to the monarchs'. B'sides, the scent of the flowers is beautiful!
DeleteThe milkweed is prolific here this year. I've even encouraged a few people not to cut it down.
