Saint Michael's in Alvena

Saint Michael's Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is in the village of Alvena, Saskatchewan.

The simple wooden bell tower.  The bell has a pleasant tone and is Very Loud!  On a calm day I'm sure you could hear it for a mile or two.

The steel sign in front of the church.

The crescent window above the front door.  Blue represents the sky and yellow signifies wheat (same as the Ukrainian flag).

The church, bell tower and tall white spruce tree.

One of three decorative wrought-iron crosses that grace the domes.

Photographed on October 27, 2019.

  1. The freshly fallen blanket of snow just enhances its beauty.

  2. Such an ornate front facade and then so very plain throughout the rest. Looks so pretty against the snow.
