Farming Valley School is a one room school near Cereal, Alberta.
This is one of only a few pioneer schools I've seen with the distinction of having a bona fide bell tower...and an oversize one at that!
The original wooden school sign above the covered entryway.
A closer look at the bell tower. The size of the openings suggest it may have been used as a lookout (though I can't imagine what anyone would be looking out for).
This metal sign is just inside the fence line along the main road.

Nice shots. Farming Valley School looks slightly odd when you see it in person. Some of the features seem out of proportion to the size of the school. Hope it stays around for years to come.
ReplyDeleteThanks BW. If you imagine the bell tower gone, it looks like a regular one room schoolhouse. Someone was thinking "unique" when this school was built.
DeleteIt does seem a little unbalanced with that oversized bell tower. Wonderful looking building though!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen another one like it.
