Holy Trinity at Irwinville

This lovely little country church at Irwinville, Alberta was built between 1938 and 1940.

A project was undertaken in 2008 to restore the church to "its former glory."

These enamelled signs are often seen at old Anglican churches.

Late afternoon light warms up the woodwork.

The stained glass window was installed in 1960 and restored in 2009.

A pump organ is "standard equipment" at many country churches.

Long blue shadows in the snow.  The cemetery was established in 1935.

The east side of Empress, Alberta runs along the Alberta/Saskatchewan border.

This big old house sits just across the border in Saskatchewan.  Nice day too!

Saint Peter's at Muenster

A "country cathedral" in Muenster, Saskatchewan.

The church was built between 1908-1910 and is still used on a daily basis.

The crenellated twin towers are about seventy feet tall.

I love the rounded apse.

The church seats over four hundred souls.

Saint Peter's was recognized as a Municipal Heritage Property in 1984.

Saint Olaf

Saint Olaf Church and Cemetery is near Tioga, North Dakota.

This old church hasn't seen any love in a long while.  The building is in very poor condition and the steeple is pulling away from the main structure.  Still a welcoming sight and certainly a landmark in the community.

There's an attractive decoration atop the church spire.

The wrought-iron gate with its multiple curlicues is a popular design in this part of North Dakota.

There were dozens of wind turbines just across the road.

The sky was in a constant state of flux that afternoon..."looks like it might rain" to "bright sunny day" and everything in between.  That made for a good adventure in the country.

Near Liebenthal

Some friendly horses in a pasture near Liebenthal, Saskatchewan.

The grey horse has an unusual brand.  The others have no brands at all.

Saint Paul United Church near Rock Dell

A country church in the Rock Dell area of Saskatchewan.  It was a warm and sunny winter day...a perfect time to be out on the back roads.

Lots of animal tracks in the snow.

Time to go.
