Saint Olaf

Saint Olaf Church and Cemetery is near Tioga, North Dakota.

This old church hasn't seen any love in a long while.  The building is in very poor condition and the steeple is pulling away from the main structure.  Still a welcoming sight and certainly a landmark in the community.

There's an attractive decoration atop the church spire.

The wrought-iron gate with its multiple curlicues is a popular design in this part of North Dakota.

There were dozens of wind turbines just across the road.

The sky was in a constant state of flux that afternoon..."looks like it might rain" to "bright sunny day" and everything in between.  That made for a good adventure in the country.

Photographed on December 18, 2018.

  1. Man, right out there on the bald prairie with only a single lonely tree.

    1. When I mentioned to a local I was driving out to Saint Olaf he said, "you can't miss it, it's on a hill." Maybe "hill" is a bit of an exaggeration. :-)
