Saint Michael's in Alvena

Saint Michael's Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is in the village of Alvena, Saskatchewan.

The simple wooden bell tower.  The bell has a pleasant tone and is Very Loud!  On a calm day I'm sure you could hear it for a mile or two.

The steel sign in front of the church.

The crescent window above the front door.  Blue represents the sky and yellow signifies wheat (same as the Ukrainian flag).

The church, bell tower and tall white spruce tree.

One of three decorative wrought-iron crosses that grace the domes.

The Wakaw Elevator

The grain elevator in Wakaw, Saskatchewan.

The sunset light was absolutely brilliant.

Beats me why the "Okanagan Valley Wine Train" was parked here.  The little train in the logo looks pretty happy though...I'm with him!

Wakaw was a good centre of operations for the area.  A motel, good Chinese food, gas and a well-stocked beer store...all one needs for an extended road trip.

Saint John's Anglican Church

A tiny church in New Brigden, Alberta.

I was in luck and the little church was open.  The heat was on making it comfy and cozy inside.

The altar drapery is strikingly beautiful.

I didn't expect to find a stained glass window...let alone three!

The Celtic cross that rises above the rooftop of the church.

Big Beautiful Brick Buildings in Battleford

As soon as I pulled into Battleford, Saskatchewan I saw this beautiful brick Court House.

The decorative elements of the building are really spectacular.

The front entrance.

The Land Titles building is next door to the Court House.  The two buildings are now linked by a common brick breezeway.

The Saskatchewan Coat of Arms carved in Tyndall stone above the front door of the Land Titles building.

The Post Office in downtown Battleford.  The clocks still work too.

And this is Battleford Town Hall.

Windmill

An old windmill along the Trans Canada Highway near the Alberta/Saskatchewan border.

It seems to be in good condition and may still be operational.

Winner Township School #2

The last photos from a trip I made last fall to North Dakota.  It was that time of day when the setting sun turns the brown prairie into a brilliant orange landscape.

Surrounded by prairie and pastures.

I'll bet the kids had some good daydreams looking out these windows.

This little school is near Blacktail Lake in Williams County.

There is also a Winner Township School #1 but I'll have to catch it next time around.

I couldn't have asked for a better ending to the trip.

The Newlyweds

This historical landmark is south of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan along Highway 37.

Old bowstring bridges such as this one are relatively common sights in my native province.

As early as I can remember all of them had been decommissioned and replaced by modern, sleeker and, in my opinion, generally less attractive bridges.

The new highway and bridge can be seen in this photo.

In the distance some cattle in the pasture to the east.

And now the bridge has a new distinction..."The Newlyweds" were here in August of 2017.  Best of luck to them.
