Being a Good Parent

This crow was keeping an eye on me while gardening at Alex's office.

Whenever I moved towards the big spruce tree on the corner this good parent would move in a little closer and let out a "caw-caw-caw" as a warning that I was getting too close to the nest.

Photographed in Medicine Hat, Alberta on May 21, 2022.

    1. I was there just a few days ago and as soon as I set foot into the yard..."caw-caw-caw!"

  2. Crows are amazing birds. We had a pair nest in the pine tree outside our windows a few years ago and it was great fun watching them. Unfortunately we missed the first flights for the babies.

    1. Too bad you missed their first flight. Maybe you'll catch them next time.

Crows also have funerals for their fallen. The first time I saw one I couldn't believe what was happening. Individual crows would come to pay respect and leave presents for the dearly departed. Quite something to experience first hand.

    2. Didn't know they did that - one more reason to be amazed by nature.
