Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery near Derwent, Alberta.
Only on a few occasions have I seen a cemetery located near a body of water. Water always makes the scene a little more alluring, don't you think?
All of the grave markers are situated along the lower south side of the church grounds.
The church has recently received a fresh coat of paint. (Thank you kind people.)
In the age old Catholic tradition, a large crucifix stands near the church.
Looks like the painters couldn't quite reach the bell tower. Hopefully they'll get to it next year.

We were there in Jul 2019. Quite an improvement in the church. Also there was a lot of fruit on the Saskatoon bushes by the grave markers.
ReplyDeleteThe church and grounds looked great during my visit. I think the birds had already cleaned up the Saskatoons.
DeleteOur local cemetery is right on the river and oddly it's right 'above' the water intake for the town water system. The running joke is that there's lots of body in our water. It's lovely to think of the graves having a water view though.
ReplyDeleteI've seen other such situations. The dead certainly aren't treated with much respect, are they?
