Redeemer Lutheran Church (Before)

A country church near Pendant d"Oreille, Alberta.

It was originally built as Jensen School.

The grounds are mostly surrounded by an old caragana hedge.

A sign just inside the front door, "Welcome to Redeemer Lutheran Church formerly Jensen School."

With three windows facing south and another five facing north the interior is bathed in light.

Spartan is the rule of the day as in most Lutheran churches.

The two doors at the back suggest separate "boys" and "girls" entrances when it was a school.

It truly looks tiny in the landscape.

A brief history: Jensen School was in operation from about 1914-1929 and again from 1932-1957.  In 1958 the building and grounds were purchased by Redeemer Lutheran Church which served the community until 1966.  It has since been vacant.

  1. It certainly doesn't look as though it's been vacant since 1966...looks as though it could be used at any time.

    1. It's surprising just how long some of these old school and church building can stand the test of time with minimal maintenance.
