Mary

This oil painting on glass of Mary is mounted above the front doors of Patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church at Model Farm, Saskatchewan.

The painting is original to the church which was built in 1932.

  1. This is a magnificent church with a unique cemetery. The painting is bordered in blue in keeping with the churches dedication to the Virgin Mary.

    1. The large onion dome on this church is spectacular as well. I often see statues of Mary dressed in blue in cemeteries.

  2. Seeing this made me think of my mother who spent four years in a sanitarium suffering from tuberculosis. One of the things she learned to do while there was paint on glass. Nothing as detailed as this though!

    1. So sorry to hear about your mom. While researching Ukrainian churches I read that one country church in Saskatchewan has only paintings-on-glass inside. I'd love to see that.
