Saints Peter and Paul at Kaleland

A beautiful stone church near Kaleland, Alberta.

Striking is an understatement!  The rounded apse is remarkable.

The church and bell tower

The black and white wedge-shaped stones and keystones above the arched windows and door are eye catching decorations.

The cemetery is directly behind the church.

A married couple's headstones painted with stars and enclosed by a woven wire fence.

The outdoor altar is dated 1929 and is attached directly onto the fenced grave plot behind it.

I don't tend to pick "favourites," but if I did, this would be one of them.

Photographed on February 23, 2020.

  1. I have photographed this church a couple of times. It is one of a kind. Would like to see inside.

    1. I've seen photos of the interior and there is a beautiful two-level iconostasis in the nave.

  4. I've never seen a round 'back end' before - guess it would be harder for the devil to catch you!

    1. No corners to hide in! The round "beck end" is called the apse. The stone masons really got this one right.
