Ispas

This is the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Ascension near Ispas, Alberta.

The original part of the church (the large central section and apse) was built in 1912.  The growing congregation soon needed more room so an addition and porch were built onto the church at a later date.

For a country church the cemetery is large with headstones old and new.

I was tramping through two-foot snow drifts as I made my way around the grounds but it was bright, sunny and warm...a "sweater-weather" day in February.

The belltower stands behind the cemetery.

The church and cemetery are still in use.

Nice spot for a summer baptism.

Then it was back to my sister's house in Vegreville for roast chicken and mashed potatoes...just like mom used to make.

Photographed on February 23, 2020.
