Nice Views

Friends are vacationing in Bigfork, Montana on Flathead Lake.  Nice views!

Ascension of Our Lord (in Winter)

Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church with a fresh covering of snow.

The dome is atypical being a "perfect" rounded shape...rounded domes aren't as common as one might think.

In warmer weather this would be the perfect spot for a picnic.

Little Log Church

This one is for you MA.  Enjoy!

A long abandoned log and mud church near Colinton, Saskatchewan.

From the general design and location of the building I believe this is an Anglican church.

A view of the apse/altar location on the eastern wall.

The small window above the altar has a Gothic arch.

Above is a side-by-side collage of the views from the other remaining windows in the church. Two of these windows (one facing north, the other south) are in the porch and the other two are along the north wall of the church.

In better days there were also two windows along the south wall...unfortunately the logs between the windows on this wall were removed at some point in time.  This has in turn weakened the roof which is now in very poor condition.

The view from the altar.  Take note of the chimney...there must have been a pot-bellied stove inside for services on cold days.

This little log church was, in my opinion, quite a find and when all is said and done...it's simply a sweetheart.

Буковина

Late afternoon at Saint Michael's Greek Ukrainian Orthodox Church (known locally as "Bukowina") near Lepine, Saskatchewan.

The church was built in 1918 using a distinctive design incorporating a central dome surrounded by four smaller cupolas, a larger cupola over the altar area and a central spire above the front entrance.  I hadn't seen this combination of decorative elements before on a Ukrainian church making this a visual delight.

The spire and onion dome are just visible above the full grown spruce trees bordering the church yard.

Over one hundred years of headstones in the church cemetery.

The main monument situated beside the church.

Overnight there was blowing snow offering a much different scene the following morning...

...almost everything was white.

Note the simplicity of the cross designs in comparison to the detailed architecture of the church.

The same view looks much different than on the previous day.

The front step into the church...

...with seating for about thirty-two people.

The sixty years anniversary plaque.

Nothing fancy here...a simple swing-gate is the entrance to the cemetery.

You are here.  Take a deep breath.
