Paul Emile

A boy's grave marker at Cimetière de Notre-Dame de Lourdes near Verwood, Saskatchewan.  Lots of colour variations on the dual-layered steel marker makes for a bright spot in this country cemetery.

Mural

A charming mural painted on a brick wall in downtown Wawanesa, Manitoba.

There's a really great restaurant just down the street called La Rocque.  You may need to make a reservation for the supper meal.

Frog

I've seen frogs every day on my road trip through southern Manitoba.  That's a good thing.

I like frogs.  When I was a kid growing up on a small farm in southeastern Saskatchewan there were an abundance of frogs.  I had a little red wagon that I would partially fill with water (after plugging the drain holes in the corners with broken twigs of course), place a few flat stones in the water then pull the wagon around and collect frogs.  Whenever I found one I'd place it in the wagon and continue on my search for more frogs.  Many would simply jump out but some stayed put and seemed to enjoy the ride.  At the end of the journey I'd dump them out of the wagon by the slough near the potato patch.  Fun kid stuff.

Norbert's Garden

This is the smallest of three garden areas Norbert has developed in his yard.  I think it's obvious...he's a natural born gardener.

He was out tending to yard duties and I was next door taking photos of an old church when we struck up a conversation.  Both being gardeners, we had lots to talk about.  While sharing some gardening secrets his kitty came home from galavanting about the neighbourhood.  As everyone knows, kitties really do think the sun revolves around them...and that's not necessarily a bad thing (as far as they're concerned anyway).  It also helps to have nine lives.

On a sad note, Norbert's wife has some serious health issues and much of his time is spent caring for her.  To tell the truth, I can't imagine what that is like to deal with...but I'm really glad that Norbert has his gardening.  Making something beautiful is often its own reward.

Guardian of Allandale School

Met this handsome young guy near Dakota Plains, Manitoba.

The Allandale school monument is smack dab in the middle of his front yard so of course he's rather protective of it...but more than willing to share with the occasional passerby.
