"Щасливого Різдва!"

"Merry Christmas!" to those who follow the Julian calendar.

This is Holy Trinity Orthodox Church at Kahwin, Alberta.

The congregation was established in 1931 at which time the first church was built.  After being destroyed by fire a new church, the one shown here, began construction in 1934.

The free standing bell tower is designed to house three bells (although only two bells are installed here).

A memorial table dedicated to the pioneers of the area.

The attractive bronze-coloured dome and cupolas are topped with black wrought iron crosses.

The cemetery was established in the early 1900's by Presbyterians and continues to be used to this day.  On this occasion a few of the headstones in the cemetery were decorated for the holiday season.

Even if you don't follow the Julian calendar, another holiday is always welcome.

Peterson Grain Elevator

The aging grain elevator in Peterson, Saskatchewan.

If you look closely you'll see a three-quarters moon overhead.

At one time it was operated by J & L Farms but now looks abandoned.

Saints Donatien and Rogatien

Saints Donatien and Rogatien Roman Catholic Church is in the village of Prud'homme, Saskatchewan.

The church was built in 1907...

...and the large central bell tower was added in 1922.

As suggested by the name, the parishioners were largely French immigrants.

Retrospective - Outside and In - Part 1

Often an annual retrospective is a random collection of favourite photos taken throughout the year, which is a fine idea...a recollection of the past.  But this year I wanted to try something different and more thematic.

What I decided upon was a collection of photos of churches that I had the opportunity to see both outside and inside...none of which have been posted previously.  So, while the photos here represent memories for me, they will be a new experience for the viewers.
