Outdoor Nativity Scene

The outdoor nativity scene at Saint Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

This is the style of nativity scene that was popular when I was a kid...a cut out painted plywood design that poignantly presents the meaning of Christmas.

Little Juniper Tree

I came across this little juniper tree growing in a ditch along a country road near Edson, North Dakota.

This is pretty well in the middle of nowhere but someone with Christmas spirit decided to doll it up for the holidays.  Good on 'em!

Sacred Space

The sacred space at Saint Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.  The Christmas decorations are tastefully understated.

Services are still offered in both Ukrainian and English.

Holy Trinity

The first post celebrating Christmas...

This is a photo of the side gate to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery near Norquay, Saskatchewan.  The red and green garlands adorning both the front and side gates of the cemetery add a touch of Christmas spirit to the countryside.

Antonivka

I was traveling the area around Canora, Saskatchewan today.  When I reached the town of Buchanan I dropped in at the R.M. office to say hello and take a look at their map of the municipality.  While I was there I found out that one of the country churches I was interested in photographing was most likely going to be dismantled soon.

I'd never seen this little church in the country before, and chances were I'd never see it again, so I thought I'd try for some photos that would make it a memorable visit.  I planned my arrival to the church for sunset and hoped the setting sun would assist me in capturing the spirit of Antonivka.  This photo was the "one" for me.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Antonivka Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (1906) is near Amsterdam, Saskatchewan and is one of the oldest churches in the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon.

Pink Barn

This barn was once a brilliant red colour (there's still a little patch of the original colour under the roof peak).  Now it's faded to pink.

Horses on the prairie in Vulcan County, Alberta.

When horses lie down they always look like they're dead...note the one on the far right.
