Return to the Little Church near Big Meadow

Four months later the snow was gone and the grass was green at the Lessard Historic Church...

My return visit to Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Cemetery yielded photos of the understated interior as well as some of the cemetery, church and grounds.

Was happy to see it again...and in spring no less.  Maybe next time around I'll see it when the leaves are falling...but for now it's springtime.  Enjoy!

A heartfelt "thank you" to the caretakers of the church and grounds.  I know it's a lot of work to keep things looking good...as well as lots of sore knees and aching backs.  Good on you!

Photographed near Big Meadow, Alberta on June 24, 2022.

  1. Always a big bonus to get a look inside. Certainly understated and almost austere. Kudos to the folks looking after this beautiful church and grounds.

    1. The interior is frugal by Ukrainian standards but it's nevertheless beautiful as I see it.

The inside photos were taken from outside through the very clean windows. Many thanks to the caretakers...they are a dying breed (unfortunately).

  2. Glad it's being looked after. Must say though that I would hate to nod off during the sermon because the resulting thump on the floor would be embarrassing!

    1. I can remember seeing people nodding off during the Sunday service in the church I went to as a youngster. After a week of long days and hard work on the farm it's understandable.
