Sunset at Dneiper
It was late afternoon on a freezing cold winter's day but those Saskatchewan sunsets are ever so enticing...one more photo before the sun goes down and all that.
This is the Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ at Dneiper, Saskatchewan.
In the meantime, gardening season has finally begun and it's nice to be out watching the plants come to life...so, new posts will be sporadic (at best) for the next while. Get outside and enjoy springtime!

Tall Spruce S.D. No. 4902
A log-built schoolhouse located in the Porcupine Provincial Forest in central Saskatchewan. A Canadian flag on the left and a British flag on the right.
I almost missed this sign tucked in between a couple of big spruce trees.

Creston S.D. No. 4722
There were two locations for Creston School, both being northwest of Dollard, Saskatchewan. The first location was used from 1927-1952 and the second from 1952-1964. About eight or nine years ago commemorative signs were placed at both sites. As the crow flies, the two locations are about two and a half miles apart.
I believe the school building was moved from the first location to the second location where it still stands, located just a few hundred feet from the edge of a lovely coulee. The school still sports its original location marker above the doorway.
This coulee is just west of the school. The kind of place that makes you feel "free as a bird."
The school windows face away from the coulee...wouldn't want the students to be
distracted from their studies now...right?

Ispas
This is the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Ascension near Ispas, Alberta.
The original part of the church (the large central section and apse) was built in 1912. The growing congregation soon needed more room so an addition and porch were built onto the church at a later date.
For a country church the cemetery is large with headstones old and new.
The belltower stands behind the cemetery.
The church and cemetery are still in use.
Nice spot for a summer baptism.
Then it was back to my sister's house in Vegreville for roast chicken and mashed potatoes...just like mom used to make.

The Wallace Stegner House
The vintage Wallace Stegner House is in Eastend, Saskatchewan and serves as a residence for artists.
Some information about the Pulitzer Prize winning author.
The period mint green with creamy yellow paint scheme reminds me of crème de menthe poured over homemade ice cream...delicious!
