"Farming was My Life"

A headstone in Saint Pascal's Cemetery near Leipzig, Saskatchewan.

Elevator in Gronlid

An old Searle/Federal grain elevator in the hamlet of Gronlid, Saskatchewan.

This was the first time I'd seen both logos still intact and visible on an old elevator.

Church near Whitkow

Church of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ Ukrainian Catholic Church is an abandoned church near Whitkow, Saskatchewan.

Each of the three domes is topped by a decorative wrought iron cross.

The arched windows in green and gold are simple but attractive.

The church sits in a small grove of trees...and some caring soul still mows the lawn too.

Kerrobert Library

Sunrise on the historic Kerrobert Library in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan.  This one's a charmer!

Wing School

An abandoned pioneer school near Wing, Montana.

It's an unusual design for a country school.

Barn near Simmie

Love the parged concrete walls and rounded, arched roof with two cupolas and five lightning rods!  The cattle raised here were blessed with good housing.

Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery near Leader

A late summer photo of the cemetery monument...

...and another in winter.

The Saskatchewan History & Folklore Society is responsible for marking many of the historical sites around the province.  Kudos to them.

My previous visits here had been during winters with heavy snow cover.  It wasn't until a recent visit this past summer that I first saw these three graves.

A handful of old and weathered headstones in the prairie grass...

...and frigidly attractive in winter.

Photographed on February 26, 2018 (winter) and September 26, 2019 (late summer).

Pronghorns

A trio of pronghorns near the ghost town of Horsham, Saskatchewan.

As soon as I got out of the car they ran a short distance away then stopped and turned around.  They aren't as shy as they used to be.

There seem to be more pronghorns in this area than in any of the other places I frequently travel.

I always enjoy seeing wildlife on the wide open prairie.

Saint Michael's in Alvena

Saint Michael's Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is in the village of Alvena, Saskatchewan.

The simple wooden bell tower.  The bell has a pleasant tone and is Very Loud!  On a calm day I'm sure you could hear it for a mile or two.

The steel sign in front of the church.

The crescent window above the front door.  Blue represents the sky and yellow signifies wheat (same as the Ukrainian flag).

The church, bell tower and tall white spruce tree.

One of three decorative wrought-iron crosses that grace the domes.

The Wakaw Elevator

The grain elevator in Wakaw, Saskatchewan.

The sunset light was absolutely brilliant.

Beats me why the "Okanagan Valley Wine Train" was parked here.  The little train in the logo looks pretty happy though...I'm with him!

Wakaw was a good centre of operations for the area.  A motel, good Chinese food, gas and a well-stocked beer store...all one needs for an extended road trip.
