Alexandria Township School

A one-room schoolhouse near Stady, North Dakota.

Like many other schools in the area it has a covered entryway with a sturdy support beam at the corner.

Almost the entire north wall is windows.  The large dark object to the left is the stove that heated the building.

Farm land surrounds the school.  One can travel for miles and miles and not even see a barbed-wire fence.

The chimney looks like it was built yesterday.

Photographed on December 19, 2018.

  1. Seeing all that row of huge windows makes me think it must have been a brute to keep warm in the winter. Back in those days they certainly didn't have the insulated glass they have now.

    1. North Dakota can see some brutal winter conditions.
Chances are the school would have been closed in the coldest months.

  2. You might have visited more schools in North Dakota than an actual resident of North Dakota.
