A look inside Saint Asaph's Anglican Church...
The church was established in 1905 by Welsh settlers.
To quote a plaque in the nearby Llewelyn Cemetery:
"To be born Welsh is to be born privileged, not with a silver spoon in your mouth, but with poetry in your blood and music in your soul."
Love and appreciation with heart and soul.
The church hasn't been used in years but is still in reasonably good condition. That new metal roof should keep it safe for many years to come.
A shot of the church from the Llewelyn Cemetery.
This is the trail that leads from the cemetery to the church.
And this is the sign just off the main road.
Photographed near Bangor, Saskatchewan on July 22, 2022.
A beautiful little church in its day. Love that quotation.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness - those pews would certainly give one a numb bum if the minister was particularly long-winded! Still a beautiful little church.
ReplyDeleteMichael once again you have touched my soul with words and photos..and the desire to renew this lonely over grown site. I'll google the site immediately. The two curtained areas by the altar are unique! The church is much larger than St Margaret's here in the Cypress Hills, with its extra side windows. The site and your photos/words are gems.
ReplyDeleteBell tower-would have put strain on roof timbers but it is well constructed. No east end window over the altar is noted, just like St Margaret's..that helps strengthen the building..for cutting large windows would have weakened the structure. Your visit there..has stirred my imagination, thanks
