Redvers Pool Elevator

One of very few grain elevators still bearing the large "Pool" logo.

I have no idea what that large rectangular object is that's attached to the side of the elevator.  Anyone know what it is?

Photographed in Redvers, Saskatchewan on August 16, 2022.

  1. I believe that was for workers to clip their safety harnesses to when they were walking on top of the grain cars, opening and closing hatches. Normally they have two parallel rails.

  2. The sign looks well preserved. I was curious about the little 'room' off to the side at the top and decided it might be for some sort of vantage point to keep an eye on what's happening below. Either way, you wouldn't get me setting foot out there!

    1. The little "room" is the office of the grain elevator operator.

I grew up in an age when these old prairie sentinels were in full operation. Everything was covered in grain dust...even inside the office. Those were different times.
