Finally had a chance to finish planting the pots and planters on my balcony this afternoon.
Some portulaca blooming in a strawberry pot. "Little roses" is definitely the best description for them.
A red-leafed variety of clover in a pinkish-orange clay pot that came all the way from Vietnam.
"Thank you" to all the growers and potters who help make my balcony a summer delight.
Almost forgot...you remember that song, right? If you don't you might be too young for this blog.

"Crimson and Clover" was a fave song of my youth, so I'm definitely not too young for this blog, LOL! Love the gorgeous pink of that portulaca.
ReplyDeleteIt was a big radio hit and is still a personal favourite.
DeletePortulaca is a great little plant for our hot and dry summers down here.
Still a favourite of mine too so thank you for the ear worm!
ReplyDeleteNice to know that portulaca will grow in a pot - will have to see if it's too late to pick up some.
Great song! The trick with portulaca is not to water them too much...and give them lots of sunlight. (I like that they close up their flowers at night.)
DeleteHave you seen a plant called 'moonflower'? It only opens at night. Has beautiful yellow flowers. The neighbours used to think we were nuts because we'd take our lawn chairs out and sit and watch them open.
DeleteThe only plant I know of that's called "moonflower" is a variety of morning glory that only opens its white flowers at night. I grew them many years ago and they were a delight to see after dark.
