Saints Peter and Paul in Yellow Creek

This is Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yellow Creek, Saskatchewan.

The building is mostly hidden from view by a dense caragana hedge.

A rear view of the church.

The domes are topped by hand-crafted wrought iron Orthodox crosses.

There is also a bell tower in the church yard.

The church cemetery is just on the edge of town.

Saint Saviour's near Birch Hills

Saint Saviour's Anglican Church and Cemetery near Birch Hills, Saskatchewan was built in 1905...

...with the spire and bell being added in 1912.

The cemetery occupies almost half of the church yard.

The church closed in 1950 and was designated a Heritage Site in 1985.  Restoration of the church and cemetery began in 1986 with donations received from descendants and friends.

Once around the yard and back to the front.

Niobe School

The school sits along the eastern edge of Niobe, a small town in northwestern North Dakota.  Just a few steps further south of the school is an unfenced farmer's field.

The eave returns on the front and back of the building and porch are a handsome design element.

The building including the bell tower and flagpole are in remarkably good condition even though the shingles and door are not.

Tall grass and volunteer trees surround the school on three sides.

A close up of the weathered wood on the front of the porch.  No kids have entered that door to further their education in a long while.  School age children in the area are now bussed to the neighbouring town of Kenmare.

Not including the porch, the building is about twenty by thirty feet.  That's about the size of a two car garage with some space left over for a work area.

A beautiful church I saw in Melville, Saskatchewan a few days ago.  I love the distinctive window shapes and cross designs.

This is Saint Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The evening light gives it an ethereal glow.

Helen

A child's grave under the shade and shelter of an old spruce tree.  A virginia creeper vine growing near the headstone is greeting the fall weather by effortlessly turning green into shades of gold and burgundy...a child's delight.
