Deer in the Dogwoods

A young doe helping me out with some gardening.  She's doing a fine job of pruning that dogwood, don't you think?

Here in Medicine Hat the deer go about their business and pay little attention to people.

The Pink Church

An abandoned church near Harlem, Montana.

Established in 1924 as Sacred Heart Catholic Church and closed in the 1960's.  The cemetery is still used to this day.

More photos of the church including the cemetery can be seen here:

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Welcome to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church and Cemetery.

I love the colours of the church.

The view from the cemetery...

...where a large silver-coloured cross stands at the entrance.

From a different angle the headstones are more prominent.

Walking back to the church along the north side.  The bell tower is large and tall for the size of the church...and the entire roof is covered in fresh snow.

Even though it looks cold it really wasn't.  The overcast sky helped to hold in what little warmth there was so a sweater and windbreaker did the trick.

Many years ago the arched alcove higher up on the bell tower would have held the statue of a saint associated with the church.

A large sandblasted wooden sign bearing the name of the church and cemetery.  I have seen several similar signs at other churches but none have had such a compelling central image as the one you see here...definitely Eastern European in flavour.

Absolutely Superb!

Hard to beat that!

Seems that the "Pool" logo was never painted out (like it is on so many).

Holy Ghost at Stadnyk

A warm and bright winter day at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The central dome is unusually wide and flat.

A large Orthodox cross tops the dome with smaller crosses on the transepts.

The cemetery is on a low rise at the front of the church.

The bell tower has a distinct lean towards the north.

Transfiguration

Transfiguration of Jesus Ukrainian Orthodox Church on a very cold winter afternoon.

The church was built in 1949 but was never completely finished.

My hope is that the building is allowed to stand as an artifact of the past for many years to come.

Saint Peter's at Lac La Nonne

Saint Peter's Anglican Church on a sunny winter day.

A small cemetery with large mature trees sits behind the the church.

The exterior of the church has been weather-proofed with a new metal roof and stucco siding but...

...a peek through a window shows the interior to be mostly original to when it was built in 1911.
